Yeah I think the stone is for sure Vulcan in Elizabeth City, the potash hoppers look like they go to a place called Parkway AG supply.

Okay, thank you for the information. Maybe one of these days I will catch them switching out those industries.

Don't worry We were at the Amtrak station and the engine was off, there was nothing coming. I've been railfanning for a couple years, I've seen what happens to people that don't pay attention!

Four Class 44 locos pulling a full platinum consist.

These locos are still being delivered (delivery started in 2015) and are pretty sophisticated.

This is South Africa's largest single order of any loco ever.

But the manufacture and delivery arrangements are just plain weird!

The locos are actually General Electric and the first 6 came from the USA.

The remaining locos are being manufactured as follows:

227 - General Electric - South Africa.
359 - CSR - China
232 - CNR - China again.
240 - Bombardier - South Africa.

So although General Electric has the capacity here, the lions share is being manufactured by Chinese companies, with the French also getting a chunk.

Locomotives are being shipped out of the Lambert's Point docks here in Norfolk, VA. Every so often there are trains that ship new locomotives bound for different countries via Norfolk Southern to get to Norfolk. I recently caught an #055 with exports bound for Cameroon, Africa back in December.

I decided to go out to the Berkley yard in Norfolk, VA this morning when I heard that Illinois Central SD70 #1036 was parked there. Here are a few shots.

While shooting the Illinois Central, I also managed to catch the Norfolk Portsmouth Belt Line working Berkley yard.

Wonder what the CN and IC unit were doing around Norfolk.
