Real World Train Pictures

Grab a rock, have a seat, and talk about the real world of trains.

To the best of my knowledge no they don't. There is a narrow gauge train that runs from the edge of Portland to the bridge and back.

I've ridden that train, cool little ride *!greengrin!*

Norfolk Southern train V14 makes it's way through Suffolk, VA and onto the Commonwealth Railway.

Denver Rio Grande and Western SW1200 #134 sits behind one of the towering grain silos of Saginaw, TX on a sunny morning. I can't believe it was still back there after reading an article about Saginaw from a 2003 Trains Magazine issue. I talked to another railfan who ran back there recently (at the time of the photo) that got some shots of it. He had a good chance to get back there when a train went by and blocked the on coming traffic... !*roll-laugh*!

Anyhow, I went back there and got some pictures of it. The thing looked beat up and weathered after 13 years passed by, but that is to be expected. What a wonderful pair of locomotives... !*drool*!

You never know what you might find hiding in the woods. Here, a historic Norfolk and Western stone water tower still stands in Chesapeake, VA. There are only a few stone water towers left in the United States.

I visited some historic locations along the old Virginian Railway line in Suffolk, VA. The line once ran along side the ex- Seaboard Coastline, now the CSX Portsmouth Sub, through Suffolk, VA. Here in the woods, you can still find some remains of the line. In the third picture you can see the rails and some ties. Note the almost full grown tree between the rails! I read the date stamped on the rails which was dated back in the forties.

Farther down the line near Norfolk, VA are one of two Virginian towers still standing. Parts of the old Virginian trackage are still used to this day in that area.

The Norfolk Southern Norfolk District line is right next to the tower.
