Alas, 5 years have gone by and some UGLY locomotives have been sketched/produced.

Lets revamp this up shall we?

My pick: The new talgo train set up here in the northwest. Saw it on my way home from school. Nicked named it FUBAR ever since i layed eyes on it.

Baldwin "Babyface":

ALCo had a similar early passenger hood unit.

PRR S1 and steamlined K4 I find ugly.

PRR S2 steam turbine and Q2 Duplex look great though, IMO. They are the Ugly Brutes. *!lol!*

Reading "Crusader" and other rebuilt Pacifics with streamlining using too much frill and lacking 'taste'.

The strangle looking D&RGW loco that RickKFoury posted above is a Krauss-Maffei class ML4000C'C' Diesel-Hydraulic locomotive built by Krauss-Maffei of Munich, Germany and which were delivered to two U.S. railroads (Denver & Rio Grande Western, three units, and Southern Pacific, three units) in August 1961.

While very much has been written and repeated about locomotive design in the United States up until the time that the arrangements were made to construct these units and the effect this had on the desire to increase unit horsepower, very little has been presented in the English language in a brief form to explain the background behind their development in Germany.
