CSX taking it in the face. Why?

Grab a rock, have a seat, and talk about the real world of trains.

True on most occasions, but what if the engineer doesn't do his horn pattern on a cross buck crossing with trees in the way?

Ok. Let's try being realistic here. **!!bang!!**

All I can say is that Corporate America has gone 'To H##L in a Hand-Basket' since the "Bean Counters" took over. All that matters is the "Bottom Line". No Civic Pride, No Social Responsibilities. Just Braggadocio about the increase in productivity (at the expense of the work force, I might add.) All Profit for the Stake Holders!!!

Now I can step down from my Soap Box...

Because better than 94% of grade crossing incidents are due to idiots with a driver's license, and also because the stats at FRA don't go into who did what when and where. The stats I posted above are not necessarily derails - they could be a number of different things, but nevertheless all FRA-triggered events.

When was the last (proven) incident to involve an engineer failing to blow his horn?

A pretty rare event. It happens, but not often. Besides, the right of way has a whistle post - engineers don't wait to come up to a grade crossing before blowing their horn, that and likely the engineer would be familiar with the line they're working. Drivers, on the other hand, do stupid things and are usually the ones heading for the pearly gates when two objects meet.

RAILSOHIO wins, also seriously? Eastern "foamers" are cocky? Thanks for including every eastern Railfan in that statement now I can tell you why you're wrong. What you said includes all eastern railfans, you've forgotten about all the other eastern railfans that are normal and don't go on and on about Spencer, which is most of us. I'm sure there are foamers in the area you live that are annoying cocky people. I for one know dozens of nice good people here in the east and I'm sure there are people the same by you. But when you make a generalized statement like the one you just did, it just shows that you don't know what you're talking about. @foureightfour

I'm going to back up FourEightFour

I have friends on both sides of the country, and in the middle as well. My friends on the east coast railfan "more intensely" then my friends in the midwest or the west coast. Also, all my friends on the East coast ever can talk about at some point every month is spencer....oh how great spencer was. If I never hear about Spencer, NC again ever in my life, I will be perfectly happy. So NS got all their heritage units together in one place? Big deal, UP did it first. Amtrak did it too in Washington. And I still don't care about either of those two.

So that means all Eastern railfans are like that?

Not all, but the vast majority that I have known are.

And the fact that everyone is getting so worked up about bashing CSX only proves it. Heck, you should see thing the stuff I say about Onion Pacific.
