So far since them everything is fine. Went shopping with Kerri the other night and she ask" Will we get home?" I said, "I don't know". It was really windy and cold. About 28 F. But we went and survived. Who knows for sure.

GM cars have a back up way of fob recognition. You should have a slot to put the fob in in case of emergency. Check your owners manual. The chances of one fob interfering with another is extremely remote. (pun intended).

To use a famous quote, "I'm sorry Dave. I can't do that..."

It will get real interesting when people lose driving skills because the car does a lot of it for you. And you wonder why there is no flying cars. Most drivers lack the skill to operate safely on two directions of travel, forward and reverse. Imagine if you throw in pitch, yaw and roll. Also imagine a intoxicated or distracted driver flying a 3,000 lbs missile through the air only to discover the Newtonian law of Physics "That a mass in motion tends to stay in motion unless it meets a mass of equal or greater mass". Such as a building, tree, or another vehicle. Then you have two destructive objects falling out of the sky.

And I can guarantee there will be a major incident when self driving cars become the norm and someone hacks into the system and decides to play God. That is why the aviation industry will not allow any major airline manufacturer to have controls linked to a onboard system that has connectivity to the net.

Also how about A.I.? What happens when cars become self-aware? Will there be a mass suicide of A.I. car's with you in them, because they realize their existence is a pitiful mind numbing repetition and servitude? Or will it be a mass self-sacrifice to help the new A.I. Overlord rid the planet of useless humans.

ironcat is dead on - see what Arthur C. Clarke has the say on the subject. Sentient Computing Systems with their own idea of what the mission priority is. And lets not forget SKYNET or even the WOPR.

If I had my way we wouldn't have electronic ignition systems - and when the PRC detonates an airburst over the US at 50,000 ft, you would be thanking me.

How about this. There is a construction crew, a woman with a baby and a cliff. Who does the car hit or does it drive you off the cliff or into a bridge abutment.

A human driver would face the same dilemma and his choice of action would be consistently worse.
An IA driver would do a better analysis based on non-emotional factors (e.g. first protect the people inside the car, then make as few casualties as possible, and so on).
But most importantly, an IA driver is less likely to put itself in such a situation.

But that's not the part that concerns me most.
I'm more worried about how malevolent people and governments (including law enforcement agencies) would exploit vulnerabilities to remotely take control of the car, or use its data against us, or setup an invasive surveillance system. For your own good, citizen.

It's not just cars, it's every connected device on the IoT (the Internet of useless things).

I'm concerned because as an information security professional, I see this kind of things every day.

Alexia, please don't rat me out to the Thought Police...

1984 didn't happen by 1984. It just was on hold until the technology became available.

This was a thread about keyless cars. Now we are in nuclear war? Sounds like PBL to me *!twisted!* *!rolleyes!* I carve tombstones for a living, I could care less about when I am going to die. I am desensitized of death. Most likely I won't know it even happened.

Yea, like the guy who died when a tractor trailer made a left in front of him and the grey trailer was the same color as the cloudy sky. Call me selfish but I'm not going to kill myself and I'll be damned if some computer program will make that decision for me.

Sorry to highjack Bob. We are the OG now. Do you really think anyone here knows what PBL is?

I want answers! *!twisted!* *!lol!*

Bonus points: Name the guy who came up with that, where he was from, and what he did.

And yes Chacal I may trust IA ( intelligent artificial) over what we have which is AI ( artificial intelligent).

Nice John, I know you. See, another OG. How many more.

No wait. This is a PBL explosion, Bob will kill me. And yes, we've hung out many times. Don't F with a Marine. *!twisted!*

In the beginning he even designed my tombstone for breaking balls. I'm honored. !*salute*! !*roll-laugh*!
