I like the second one. If done right, the colors would show up sharp. As long as they add some Armour yellow in it.

I think we can safely assume that anything on the body that is painted flat white in those examples will be painted UP's Armour yellow.

Speaking briefly of sorta politics for humor's sake to lighten the mood here a bit...

The weird thing I just noticed is that paint job #2 has the feel of the current Russian flag with it's same shade of red and blue colors right next to each other in a similar fashion. Russia used to be a communist/socialist country when it was part of the USSR.

What kinda screws up that theory a bit is the light powder blue color at the top. If they were to keep the bottom white as seen in the example instead of painting it Armour yellow, it would look like the Russian flag turned upside down....which when done with an American flag, has historically meant a distress signal.

Also.... the powder blue at the top is basically the same executive blue used on Air Force One that transports the American president. So is this the so-called Russian collusion locomotive? Is UP sending a message to the American public with this paint scheme? Let the conspiracy theorists run wild with that one. !*roll-laugh*! !*lho*! TOTALLY J/K HERE folks..... but an interesting observation none-the-less! *!!wink!!*

I think they need to go back to their graphic designer and come up with something better.

Scheme #1: Must have been approved by the Castro family.
Scheme #2: What does all that flowing color have to do with a "powered by people" railroad?
Scheme #3: Looks like a 70's postal delivery truck

Here's what they should do. If they really support the people that make the railroad, name a locomotive after the number 1 seniority person in each craft when they retire. Keep the traditional yellow and grey paint. Add the employee name underneath the cab (similar to how Rock Island named their locos before their demise). Add a slogan under the Union Pacific on the long hood... maybe either the "Powered by People" slogan, or maybe "People Making the Difference".

To me, this would be a tasteful way of honoring those employees who have dedicated their career to the railroad... thus honoring those that have powered the railroad over the years.

Certainly looks way better in reality than the original concept art. I am a bit curious as to why they've chosen to paint these custom schemes only on SD70ACes. Consistency with the others maybe? Operation Lifesaver and the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Awareness locos don't count cuz they are basically logo patches on normal UP locomotives. As an EMD fan I'm happy, but I'm sure the GE fans would like a little love. *!greengrin!*

Came across these locos for the ladies down under.....
