FP9u's still hauling freight

Unread postby DrewG » Thu Aug 28, 2014 5:00 pm

This was an opportunity I couldn't miss, Ontario Southland Railway has two running FP9u's and yesterday and today for the first time since 1401 ex-Railink re-entered service, they ran them together. I was lucky enough that when my dad pulled up to the OSR yard in Woodstock they were parked beside the old station and I was able to get some excellent shots of them.

we followed it for a little while after but always missed a good shot of them pulling autoracks, got one last shot of it passing by the station again with the autoracks

They do...
Unless you mean they don't use flashing ones.

It isn't really it's original paint scheme, that's why it's missing most of the pinstriping, when it was built in 54 it was in the original green scheme then got repainted to the red and black scheme. It was sold to VIA and repainted in there colours 3 times. Then sold to the TTSL then WSJR, they painted it in the old CN colours OSR bought it from them and have left it in those since. If OSR repaints it it will be it's 8th livery.

To be fair, you can't expect the original paint to have lasted for over 600 years... *!!wink!!*

Actually OSR 1401 broke down during that run, as it developed a fault and had to be turned off, so the crew completed the run with only 6508 running and 1401 as dead weight.

And to be complete, OSR has 3 FP9's in use, not 2. OSR 1400, 1401 and 6508. Although at the moment 6508 is the only one seeing active service. You can see it almost daily on the Woodstock (CP yard) - Beachville - Ingersoll line.

I know of 1400 and I was under the impression that 1400 was having some issues and was not in service at the moment. When I was there 1401 was still kicking. I wish they brought those down by Guelph but I'm still happy to see m420w's rs18u's and rs23's.
