Same thing happened 6 months ago about 100 meters from my house. I don't think they put as much education into rail safety as they used to.

Inattentive or not, it's terrible to loose your life when it's hardly begun and also devastating for the surviving family. Tragic.

It's a shame for everyone involved. This seems to happen way too often.
Same thing happened a few miles from my house. The young fella completely ignored closed gates,flashing lights and a warning siren. He also lived right next to the track.
It seems that people who live close to crossings become so used to the noise they blank it out. Add to that a set of head phones and another tragedy is waiting to happen.

I'm afraid I feel more sorry for the train crews than anyone who walks out in front of a train and gets hit. The driver is going to have to live with this for the rest of their lives add to that you will get people out there who will try and blame the driver in order to sue when there was nothing the driver could of done and is in noway at fault. People really do need to start thinking when near Railways.

Yes, it's a tragedy. But, sorry, what happened to "Stop, look and listen"? You are crossing train tracks for goodness sakes. Trains don't stop on a dime. Get your head out of the iPod, out of the headphones. Sorry, I don't want to be disrespectful at all, but some common sense should have been involved here. My sincere condolences to the family. Sad.

These kinda things need to be handled differently. Instead of some stupid NIMBYs that try to attack the railroad and take advantage over the situation, in my opinion it is a time to put the family in our prayers and support the awareness of railroad danger. People who would never walk on an interstate or a runway, for some reason think its okay to be on railroad tracks.

It is intriguing how people who normally most likely would think twice about jaywalking on an interstate highway approach a railroad track in such a cavalier manner.

Tragic at best for all concerned. That is exactly why I gave up motorcycles. You see people who are not paying attention to anything going on around them driving around. If they are not looking out for a tractor trailer or a train at a crossing, you know they are not looking for a motorcycle. We just had a kid killed here about 2 months ago doing the same thing walking home from high school. He was in the 9th grade and listening to his music. A coal train hit him. They said he never looked up or back. The thing is that his school was right behind the tracks as well so he had to know that trains are on that line all of the time. It just escapes me as to why people, not just kids, do that sort of stuff.
