Great to hear more area's are getting into the 110mph zone. Would be nice to see Amtrak on the A-Line at those speeds, 79mph is the limit for now. On another note, I think that's the cleanest I've ever seen a P42DC-they look so nice. I do sometime's wonder if getting up to those speed's with diesel locomotives makes the engineer's nervous or even scared.

There's only one problem. This makes no economic sense.

"Crossing gates will go down as much as 80 seconds in advance of the train."

People already can't wait 30 seconds and you're going to make them wait 80 seconds and have a train pop up over the hill covering 54 yards per second? I predict several 110mph car obliterations in the future.

Paradise! In Italy they go down as much as 10 minutes in advance of a train that travels at 40 mph. It does keep the polution levels high as nobody turns their car engine of and there's loads of human flesh to scrape from locos....

One plus for Amtrak is the fact that between Dwight and Pontiac Il., the track is level and straight for miles.
Going through the small towns along the tracks is another matter.
Lot and lots of farmers and their combines. !*don-know!*
Do a Google on Dwight, Il. They have a neat train station in the rather small downtown, and I have
burgers and beers at Turtles Tap a few time a year on my way to Bloomington, Il. !!*ok*!!

I once saw a pic of what happened to a big John Deere machine whose operator thought he could beat the train. !*not-ok*!
