"OTTAWA, Ontario – Canadian Pacific’s transcontinental Canadian streamliner will be featured on Canada’s $10 bill beginning in 2013. The new bill is part of a program by the Bank of Canada to produce currency with polymer material and new security features.
The train was chosen to represent Canada’s greatest technical achievement, linking the eastern and western frontiers of the country in what was the longest railway ever built at the time – Canadian Pacific, completed in 1885. The bill will include a view of the Canadian in the Rocky Mountains and a portrait of Sir John A. Macdonald, the first Prime Minister of Canada who helped push Canadian Pacific to completion. The specific designs and detailed images of the notes will not be released until their official unveiling dates.
VIA Rail Canada continues to operate the Canadian using equipment built for the train in the 1950s by the Budd Company. However, today’s triweekly train uses Canadian National trackage between Toronto and Vancouver."
