How NOT to run around your train

On Strasburg on Wednesday 02/11 There will be some serious questions asked - maintenance crew not realigning the road, conductor not ensuring road was correct and footplate crew not keeping a proper look out and travelling at what looks like an excessive speed. An expensive oopsie if it even runs again, and then there is teh cost of teh written off excavator.

Yes accidents happen, but this one should not have.

Strasburg has been running that line so many times per day for so many years I think it caught everyone off guard.

This one works at the time of posting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQ5JwKY7ytg Did they have the track switch the wrong way?

Sad to see that. It looks like the crew was ok, which is the most important thing. I do hope they were paid up on their job insurance though. Like the steam engine, I suspect they will be out of service for quite sometime. My guess is that they will get charged on violating rule 6.28 other than main track and 1.1.2 alert and attentive. Situational awareness is every so important on a railroad and you can't take anything for granted, or let yourself become distracted.

Trains Magazine posted an article about this accident in their January 2023 edition. The article states that the accident occurred on November 2 and the by November 7 the 4-8-0 was repaired and back in service. That's less than a week later!
