PRR E6 (4-4-2) inside the Altoona Locomotive Test Plant circa 1911. The test plant was used to test locomotives for performance and check diagnostics's. Almost all PRR steam locomotives went through this building from K-4's to the unique T-1's.

I don't think any amount of running will get it down to a size 2-4-0.

They also used to "slip test" locomotives. They would chain up a locomotive and grease the track. I imagine that the M of W department was not worried about engine burn on those rails. I have seen several pictures of the N. C. & StL. slip testing at the West Nashville Shops.

We once had a Gresley V2 loco break loose when under full power on one of those... Apparently it made quite a mess!
