This happened nearby, on the same line that runs behind my workplace. Be warned, the last second or so is cringe inducing.

I get how he didn't see the train coming as his back was to it, but you would think the 140db horn, and the rails 'singing' would have tipped him off that he shouldn't be on the tracks

Chasing down a suspect, I can see how you might be distracted enough not to hear the train coming. It would be a perfect example of "tunnel vision".
