Could the Walt Disney Co. buy Valve/Steam????

Unread postby ex-railwayman » Wed Dec 20, 2017 6:50 am

As we all saw in the worldwide media recently, the Walt Disney Company have just bought 21st Century Fox for umpteen Billion Dollars. However, an interesting thought has surfaced that Walt Disney Co. might want to get into the home gaming computer entertainment market and one possible suggestion was that Valve/Steam might be on their radar for a future acquisition, I wonder what would happen to all our games we have on our Steam accounts, and the future of DTG, if that ever happened?

Let's face it, there's already a good deal of Mickey Mouse in DTG, but we're all still Goofy enough to love(-hate) it.

Since Disney is a very marketing customer centric operation that would probably be a positive thing.

Disney removing games that aren't kid/family friendly? !*roll-laugh*!

In all seriousness, it might be a big move for them, considering steam is a big thing among gamers.

If Disney did buy Steam, nothing would really change. Disney might have a reputation for being kid-friendly but they're happy to own more mature content as long as their name isn't directly on it. They might change some behind-the-scenes policy but you're not going to see them stop selling M-rated games.

if only because if they did stop sellin M rated content on steam they would lose at least 75 percent of their future revenue instantly

Lets see, Disney buys Steam. They announce sequels to popular games, build up hype for them. When the sequels come, they are rehashes of the original, or completely disconnected from the original series. But, regardless of how angry this makes the fan, they will continue to churn out games at a frenzied pace until everyone is sick of them and Disney wrings every last dime from them.

Oh wait. I'm thinking of Star Wars. Carry on!
