This happens more often then one might think. There is a usually a valve or wire one can pull just for this occurrence.. Good thing they moved the horns to the long hood.

Poor crew really got the short straw. A bad riding locomotive (SD60I), stuck horn, and trash on the head end.

Well at least we now all know that electrically valved horns fail in the "open" position for our safety. The old Grahm-White manual valves were bad about getting rust lodged in them. The horn would will just kind of squeal or get one note out. Helped an NS crew with that one night. They wondered how in the world some one would know how and were to shut off the air, take it apart and clean it out. I showed them the rust flake that came out. Had a happy crew then!! LOL
