Speeding

Grab a rock, have a seat, and talk about the real world of trains.

To attest to Buzz's story, but fast forward about 10+ years, my ex father-in-law was an engineer on the Espee. One night he was told by a manager to get the train into town as quickly as possible, and that no one would be watching... ie no weed weasels. It was a TOFC train, and apparently a trailer needed to be in SoCal ASAP. He said it was the fastest trip he ever made over the territory with a freight train. He had been up and down those tracks for 20+ years, and knew where he could push the limits. But, back in the 80's, things were more loose than today, and when a hot load needed to be somewhere quickly, managers would look the other direction... especially when they had a crew they could trust not to "step in it".

That’s a rather silly response. That’s like saying your father in-law worked as a police officer for the Beverly Hills police department for 30 years and calling Los Angeles police officers working in the high crime south-central area whiners cuz your father in-law handled his job just fine. Both are police officers, but clearly one has the harder assignment ... hence why Beverly Hills has a much lower turnover rate than south-central LA’s police department.

Clearly something is worse than normal about Portland or they would not have such a high turnover rate there for trainmasters. When you have other employees ducking the job offer and you have UP asking my friend’s husband (who had a quadruple heart bypass) to take a stressful assignment that has sent others out the door or to an early grave....clearly UP must be pretty desperate. Why is it so bad in Portland? I don’t know. I guess I could ask her husband, but whatever it is... clearly something ain’t quite right in Portland for trainmasters. !*don-know!*

Clearly this is way off topic also hence my smart alec remark. If you want to start a topic about something else then do so don't highjack a conversation about speeding.
