American New-Build Steam

Early last Wednesday, April 12th, BR 60163 "Tornado" reached a top speed of 101.6 mph on a special test run to prove that the locomotive could run safely at speeds of 90 mph. This got me thinking about some of the fast steam locomotives we had here in the States that did not survive into preservation. So, if you had the chance to build any brand new American steam locomotive, what would it be? My personal top 3 would be:

New York Central Class J3a Husdon (Standard and Dreyfuss):

The Pennsylvania RR T-1 trust plans to make a T-1 steam loco from scratch (road number will be 5550). They plan to fix the problems of the original design so that it can possibly reach 100+.

Very ambitious plan. Is there even a foundry left in the USA that can cast a one-off integral engine bed of the required size and complexity?

They've slowly been building bit by bit. I've been following their progress on Facebook. Right now they are focusing on the cab. Not sure where everything is being done though.

Is there a website on this project?

I follow the restoration of Santa Fe 2926, and progress is slow. They have the engine on her wheels though and are able to roll her out.
