Early last Wednesday, April 12th, BR 60163 "Tornado" reached a top speed of 101.6 mph on a special test run to prove that the locomotive could run safely at speeds of 90 mph. This got me thinking about some of the fast steam locomotives we had here in the States that did not survive into preservation.
