NS and CSX in CA?

Unread postby Matchstick101 » Wed Feb 10, 2016 11:29 pm

sadly it was at night so I wasn't able to get a good look at the loco's number but I saw an NS leading with 3 CSX helpers running westbound in San Gabriel. A bit far west for those trains isn't it? did i see something rare or was this a common thing?

CSX and NS make appearences on the west coast every now and then. It's uncommon on the west coast, but a little more uncommon it's all NS/CSX.Just like it's extremely rare for UP running on the CSX.

The only time I see them out here is when they are borrowed power. I have never seen them lead a train.

yeah I wished I had my phone out at the time but I was behind the wheel *!sad!* but yeah I was very surprised to see NS in the lead. I'm no expert at the identifying locos but they looked like ES44's

NS, CSX, and KCS power has been showing up here in Vancouver on BNSF trains regularly for the past year or two. Its a nice change from solid sets of pumpkins. I'm pretty sure they are just equalizing HP hours for all of the run though oil trains.

Lately here in Frankfort we have been having a lot of foreign power, like two KCS's In one week, Citirail, UP. But this is why there is now the standard gauge for tracks, so that these cars and locomotives can move around USA, and it just depends on what train the locos are on, where they are headed, and when they are available. But I think NS Heritage units have also visited Cali.

oh man I would loved to have seen a NS heritage unit here in CA. It seems in my area due to construction they run mostly at night now so I rarely get to see any trains anymore. Maybe I should go out with my cam and do some train spotting..

They all seem to share/lease power to each other regularly these days. I see plenty of BNSF and UP power come through my neck of the woods. !!*ok*!!

Alot of NS and CSX power just showed up in the western states, I heard something about some document dealing with locomotives in California that has recently expired, so this might have something to do with it?
