Also a good reference if a SD80MAC should ever be made for Railworks.

What are the external ( cab too I guess ) differences between a 70MAC and an 80MAC? I know there's a freeware SD70 being worked on - although I forget which model and who - perhaps that might be a nice path to take with it if it's not amazing extra work.

They actually look more like SD90MACs to me.

The 80MAC controls and 70M controls are different, but have the some of the same switches also. Compare the video to this photo of an early SD70M controls: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 284&nseq=5
The computer displays are replaced with analog dials. Among a few other things.

But if you look at a newer 70M, the stand it looks more like a NS control stand: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 494&nseq=4

The controls of a SD90MAC are pretty much the same as on a SD80MAC: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 758&nseq=1

Wow. Could they make a locomotive more huge than these beasts? Well, besides the DD40AX. That's the biggest diesel on record. (and I love it)

The SD90MAC-H was almost as powerful as a DD40AX. It's prime mover was rated at 6300 hp compared to the DD40's 6600 hp.

The problem with them was they were extremely unreliable. So unreliable in fact, UP scrapped their entire fleet. Some with less than 5 years of service. You can still find SD90/43MACs in service but they're only rated at 4300 hp.

The SD90 was supposed to have EMD's new 265H 4 cycle prime mover in it. Never could make it work. They reverted back to the SD43 because so they could actually use the locomotives. The SD80 uses the 710 series prime mover in a V20 configuration.
