There is real Railroading History here; from the earliest CCO, to Clinchfield, to L&N and on to CSX, just to name a few.

Going to be tough times for some folks........

Whoa - that's harsh. Seeing that Clinchfield/CSX has always moved a lot of traffic there, the Erwin facility was the last place I thought would close. Where will CSX do their local maintenance now?
Cheers!

The CSX spokeswoman said over the last 4 years the railroad has lost 1 billion dollars in coal revenue and CSX says that's the main reason for this yard closure. Considering this current administration's open hostility towards coal and it's EPA directives aimed at the coal and power generating industry.....this is not shocking at all.

The only surprising thing here is the lack of prior notice by CSX of the closure. Typically lots of unions put into their contracts that they are to be notified of layoffs....or at least put on notice of the possibility of layoffs and ESPECIALLY plant closures. That doesn't appear to be the case here. Job today, no job tomorrow.

It does say in the article that the employees are being paid 60 days pay and they MAY be offered jobs elsewhere on the railroad.
