Duffy Street Disaster

Hey guys maybe you can help me out. A long long time ago probably 10 years, on the Discovery Channel there was this great show, in fact there were several episodes called, "NTSB Crash Files" the specific one I am after was "Disaster on Duffy Street."

It was an hour long and had a really fabulous breakdown in steps of what went wrong and the sequence of events, with interviews of the actual NTSB investigators and eyewitnesses.

Here is a link of the exact show but on the Sunset Limited disaster http://youtu.be/QU1gMaABA34

Please do not confuse what I am asking with the much poorer rendition done by "Seconds from Disaster."

Would anyone happen to have recorded it or know what I am even talking about?

I had a VHS recording I made myself when it aired but it is long gone now, and I would love to see it again.

Thanks for the help guys, and hopefully a trip down memory lane.

Trona, if memory serves me correct, is used in the making of sodium carbonate. All 6 head end locomotives at the time were using there dynamic brakes. The investigation concluded that the 3rd engine's dynamic brakes were not working, whatsoever. Even worse, the engineers in the helper locomotives on the back knew about it, but never communicated it. This, combined with a load of trona that was heavier than calculated load, caused the runaway. As soon as it hit a curve, near duffy street, it derailed.

I have the tape that is called exactly as the post is titled. I don't have the means to convert it to Digital at the moment. But I'll keep this in mind and ask around.

The helper engineer screwed up by putting it in emergency as the dynamics were not letting the train speed up so fast. I don't know why they thought it would be a good idea that emergency would disable the dynamics when applied.

Sadly I could only find the seconds from disaster one..

Hey thanks Anthony! Yeah if you ever get around to that wow would that be great! I had it on tape long ago too and I think it got tossed along with many VHS tapes. Too bad too because that was a great show. I even contacted Discovery channel and they were not able to help.
