DM&IRs Yellowstones were tough pullers as well. Kicked the crap out of the Big Boy.

Yep, I love those things.
I have a book that says they regularly hauled the heaviest trains under steam power, but, the grade was almost entirely downhill... According to the book, they hauled special ore jennies with a dual braking system. When the ore jennies were over half their gross weight, the secondary system came online.
