I was gonna post this but thought people wouldn't care since this happens often enough. The smoking at the end of the video almost pushed me to, but I got lazy by then. !*roll-laugh*!

I still wonder why people stop on the tracks. Idiots! !**duh*!!

EDIT:
ER ROUGE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Tuesday update: KNOE 8 News has learned that the two railroad employees injured in Sunday's train derailment are now both being treated for their injuries in a Shreveport hospital.

Mer Rouge Police Chief Mitch Stevens says the train engineer has a compound fracture to his leg and some bumps and bruises. The chief says the conductor has numerous broken ribs. He had surgery to remove his spleen and heart surgery related to the broken ribs.

KNOE 8 News is back in Mer Rouge Tuesday continuing to work on this story and what possibly may be done to make this crossing safer.

Wow. I'm surprised the injuries were that bad. Certainly more than the video gives the impression of. The gas leaking was just argon which is an inert gas.

No one died from this thankfully and that is all that matters.

Low boy trailer got high centered on the crossing- the tracks are too high above the road. Driver should have known better, look for another crossing. Oh well. Lived to learn that lesson. I'm also surprised at the engineer's and conductor's injuries; standing or sitting in the wrong places? Or is there just not a lot of protection to begin with in a diesel's cab?

Wow, if you watch in full screen you can see the lead engine start tipping over at the 14 second mark! I'm glad no one was killed.

I s aw a still photo of the lead unit on its side a couple of days ago. The way it rolled over, the engineer and conductor were rolled like dice. My guess is they saw what was coming and held on tight, which probably minimized their injuries. Apart from that, it would not have been unreasonable to have seen at least one of them with a broken neck or back. It will be interesting to see what they have to say about it, assuming they comment publicly.

As to the punctured tank car, most public safety personnel will order an evacuation unless they are completely sure the leak is non-toxic. I expect that they would be all the more cautious about this after the Lac Meganitc wreck.

If they really wanted to reduce injuries, they could just put thick gel padding all over the place inside the cab like the rubber room at a mental hospital. *!greengrin!*

I'm not, especially considering the multi-ton load on the trailer and the roll-over of the lead locomotive, which can be seen as the engine is going off camera after impact. No way to avoid injuries from that one.
Cheers!

They could have been lucky and sliced through a Sears van full of pillows, instead they hit a lowboy carrying a crane.

Seriously? It's just a stupid locomotive, the fact that nobody died is far greater than a piece of wrecked machinery.

Except for the underframe, the Espee unit looks almost fine. Still it won't be surprising if it's painted into UP colors when it's fixed.
