CSX freight vs. film crew...........not good

Saw this last week: http://www.latimes.com/nation/nationnow ... 7161.story Another article said the film crew had permission to film on the property, but not on the tracks. Sad accident that was preventable.

A lot of tragedy surrounds that band... and it looks like anyone who tries to capture the scoop on them.

Right now Georgia is experiencing a movie-industry boom. We got a lot of hollywood types out here, and while they are pumping dollars into the economy, they're also making a nuisance of themselves because they aren't taking the time to get a feel for the area. Hit by cars, hit by trains, mugged, even having 100k cameras stolen off the set right under the director's nose. Classic case of city-slickers in the Billyhood.

Now railroad security is going to go after photographers and railfans like rabid dogs.

Certainly sad news about the young woman dying, but the rules are in place for a reason. In the end when the rules aren't followed by some then the blanket solution is to ban all access to everyone. I was recently part of a video crew shooting some surfing footage with an unmanned drone at a public pier. We were told to leave the location because the week before someone was using a drone in an irresponsible way that could have caused damage or injuries to pier patrons, so the use of drones was now banned for everyone.

The primary function of railroad police is protection of RR property and theft prevention. If no "outsiders" are on the property, both objectives are achieved, as well as keeping the general public safe from this type of accident. Having witnessed first hand some of the absolutely "bone-headed" antics of some so-called railfans, I can understand why some of the officers take the actions they do. Personally, I've found that if I respect their property, conduct my actions in a safe manner, and above all, remained respectful when stopped by an officer, I will have little or no problems. There are many instances where a railroad policeman has politely asked me to leave the property, but first allowed me to finish the photograph I was in the process of taking.
