I was just watching a video of how they are laying panel track to move 4014.

Something a little funny about 4014s move.
Trainorders.com said in a blog, that most people didn't realize that when UP 4014 had crossed the parking lot at the Pomona Fairgrounds, that 4014 had technically left Pomona for the first time in decades.

Yes, this one deserves a special moniker and "He" is much more appropriate.

Some people in the videos were complaining about the 4014 being pulled by a loader, but I too was impressed with the pulling power of that little tractor. Talk about David and Goliath.

A lot of people don't realize that even though it weighs more than twice what an SD70Ace does, each wheel only has the surface contact area of a dime, so there is very little rolling resistance if the drivers are well lubed.

I just hope that UP will follow through with this project and not drop it when they run into technical problems or cost overruns. Great PR for all railroads this will be.

I don't think CSX will ever have steam, they're ridiculously hard to work with even when trying to just move stored equipment. I've heard from a friend first hand who happens to own a steam locomotive. Even without that, their firm "no" stance on heritage was a giveaway for me.
Does KCS or BNSF even own any steam? I can't seem to remember, steam isn't all that important to me but its nice to see history preserved like this so I support UP.

It is good for PR, when NKP 765 rolled through Leipsic last summer(wow time has flown by) the whole town came out to see it, no one really cares about(or knows about) a boring NS -9 or Gevo but people love steam. Many local news stations were also there. I hope UP achieves success with the 4014.

KCS I THINK scrapped all their steam engines, and BNSF falls under Santa Fe and CB&Q so I think they have some in museums somewhere.
