I'm rolling

Grab a rock, have a seat, and talk about the real world of trains.

I'm rolling

Unread postby Chacal » Tue Aug 13, 2013 5:41 pm

Going to a meeting in Montreal for the week. Could have taken the bus for half the price, but I like traveling by train too much.
Comfortable seat, free wi-fi, I'm just enjoying dinner then relaxing for 3 hours. My hotel is across the street from the train station.

Oh and P42DC in Via livery.

That's awesome. I'm the kid who sits in a dark corner at lunch in the band room with and iPod stealing wifi to be on railworksamerica.

Chacal,

Judging from your photos, it looks like VIA uses the same unfortunate designer as Amtrak. Here's what a REAL passenger car should look like!

VIA only uses that type of car on the east coast for quick "commuter" service between the fairly close cities, in the west VIA uses their famous budd luxury passenger car sets that they got from CP back in the day.

Long live the true quality of passenger service!

You're absolutely right about Budd cars being "luxury". If memory serves, the Park cars were patterned after the California Zeyphr.

I'm hoping to bring back some memories when I ride the Rocky Mountaineer next month between Vancouver and Calgary. I figure
it could be my only chance to ride through Kicking Horse pass and the Spiral Tunnels. Looking forward to it.

Regards,

Bruce

There's no romance in Pooperliners. I love riding in the streamliners at the MTM. You can just feel the presence of a different era in them.

Not Bad, I am the Year 9, sitting behind the music rooms, avoiding all the dicks, bullies, and idiots, sitting with my friends, using the Music room WiFi to go on RWA on my school laptop, while my friends play their games

Yes, what Via calls "Renaissance" cars.

I like them a lot, for their comfortable seats and plenty of storage room underneath.

Doing the same trip again, this time I'm on the 15:25 train which is not very popular. As a result we have 3 old streamlined cars trailing a F40PH-2 in the livery Buzz is working on. I didn't expect this so I did not have my camera ready. Old streamlined cars have a certain nostalgic magic, but have no shades (nice sunset but I can't see my screen!), miniscule tables, only one outlet for 2 seats, no stowage under the seat. Also the seats are narrower and less comfortable.
