Canadian National Railway has acquired EMDX 1206,1208,1209,1210. Their numbers are 8100-8103. P6 designates that all the powered axles can be individually controlled. I ended up with CN 8100 yesterday, in Ex Demonstrator Livery. CN is the last major railroad to purchase AC equipment. So what do you guys think?

"If you really needed a diesel locomotive right away, then go ahead and order a ALCO. But if you could wait for real quality, then go for an EMD or a GE".

Great video. I've seen these a few time recently going southbound, I live within eyesight of the CN mainline south of Chicago. (Olympia Fields, IL.)
these were not ordered paint jobs. CN just slapped their logo's and numbers on them. They might give them a proper paint job in the Woodcrest shops eventually. It is a nice paint scheme though.
Enjoy your videos !*salute*!

I find the unique mix of the EMDX paint and the CN noodle to be an odd but good look, I think they should adopt it! !*roll-laugh*!

These P6's are the first AC powered locomotives CN has purchased from EMD, but not the first AC locomotives they bought. Last year they got their order for 30 ES44AC's with another 30 on order right now. But those again were not the first AC locomotives CN bought, although the first bought brand new. When they bought out B&LE they acquired 3 SD38AC's which are CN's first AC locomotives. I believe all 3 are still in service with CN. It is nice to see CN having the best and newest power out there right now, now only if they would go and order 100 or so of them along with the ES44AC's.

You realize an the AC in an SD38AC doesn't mean it has AC traction, right?
A standard SD38 uses a Generator for a DC->DC traction. The SD38AC is basically a SD38-2 without the Dash 2 Modular Electronics; using the same 645 coupled to a AR10 Alternator/Rectifier for AC->DC Traction.
