New Products in Development at BLLW

Unread postby TVRRMAN » Sat Jun 12, 2010 11:33 pm

I thought I would finally pull open the virtual shop doors and give everyone a sneak preview of the new projects in house at BLLW. Unfortunately, the images were a little too large to link in here. The images can be found directly at http://www.bllw.net/Projects-HeadEnd.html.

Broadway Limited Locomotive Works is proud to debut the Keystone Legends Series Pennsylvania Railroad "Head End" packages for Railworks and Rail Simulator. Each package of equipment is being painstakingly researched and assembled to provide you not with a handful of cars, but accurate reproductions of equipment that could be used to assemble an entire period consist. Each item in these packages was a member of the Railway Express Agency and US Postal Service pool, and could be found operating on any road and over any route in the US well up until Amtrak took over passenger operations in 1971.

The Postwar package will include three different B60b Baggage Cars (heavily weathered Prewar livery car with Pre-1945 style wooden doors, Postwar (post 1945) era "modified" Baggage car with correct 1950's era details, and a postwar era B60b "Messenger" with correct additional messenger car details), three different 50' "R50b" Express reefers (Prewar era car with original grab iron setup, Postwar era car non-modified, and modified Postwar era car), 74' "BM70m" Combination baggage-mail Railway Post Office car in Postwar era paint, and M70b RPO in Postwar era paint. Bonus cars are still on the decision table yet.

Stay tuned to this post and BLLW.net for more exciting developments..

Well, thought I'd drop a teaser image so far...

There's a lot more work, but I thought I'd take a moment to drop off an update. The roof artwork (aside from the vents) is temporary. I've updated this post to showcase the new rivet work installed.

Developments at BLLW...

Unread postby TVRRMAN » Sun Oct 17, 2010 9:00 pm

First off,

I have to apologize for the length of time it's taking me on this package. Work has been ongoing despite the lack of updates on the BLLW.net website, and here at Railworks America. Among newer developments in the project are commissioning a member of the Pennsylvania Railroad Technical and Historical society for helping keep this project as accurate as possible. Work continues on mostly 50% of the equipment to date with work now ongoing in an assembly line fashion.

Now for an overall breakdown of equipment and shape variants in production, or completed !*hp*! . Each package comes setup to give the best balance of equipment for the time frame being modeled in this package. All of these cars will come with operational doors unless noted.

B60b baggage Cars

Standard Version, Prewar (Model features Pre-War paint, Olive Green trucks, original wood doors)
Standard Version, Postwar (Model features Standard Black trucks, Black roof, and Tuscan Car body)
Messenger Version (Included in all packages except Pre-War pack) (Model features all same as Standard Version, Postwar except for addition of messenger-related details)

BM70m RPO

All variants will come with a nearly accurate interior designed with help of fellow BLLW member Kyle Ortiz.

Models Available in:
1948-1953 Livery (Black Roof, Underbody and trucks; Tuscan Body. Bronze Gold lettering and numbering
1954-1962 Livery (Black Roof, Underbody and trucks; Tuscan Body. Dulux Gold lettering and numbering
1953-1967 MOW service livery (Silver Roof, Black underbody, lettering and numbering.)

R50b Express Reefer

Pre-War Livery (as Built) (original grab iron and end arrangement details. Paint: Mineral brown roof, Olive green trucks and underframe parts; Light Tuscan colored body. Bronze Gold lettering
Pre-War Livery (Modernized) (Modernized Side and end details. Paint: Mineral brown roof, Olive green trucks and underframe parts; Light Tuscan colored body. Bronze Gold lettering
Postwar Livery (as Built) (Same as Pre-war As-Built) Paint: Black roof, trucks underframe details and grabs, Tuscan colored body. Dulux Gold lettering.
Postwar Livery (Modernized) (Same as Pre-war Modernized) Paint: Black roof, trucks underframe details and grabs, Tuscan colored body. Dulux Gold lettering.
Post 1960's version: includes prototypes removed roof walks and modified grab iron and end details.

B74A Horse Car (These things were utilized throughout the Pennsy system for transporting race horses between the various race tracks the PRR had access to.)
Only one version available: Postwar era paint (Black roof, underbody, trucks and grabs, Tuscan body

All in all, I think we're getting there... slowly...
