USRA 4-6-2 Power?

Unread postby Mickey » Mon Feb 04, 2013 9:55 pm

I just purchased the USRA 4-6-2 HEAVY Pacific to use in my new Scenario in "Castle Rock." I've been driving steam locos for over 5 years and I could not get this one moving much over 20 MPH going downhill (1.5% grade) pulling just 4 heavyweight cars! I tried using the USRA LIGHT Micado and it works just fine. Wouldn't a HEAVY Pacific have more speed/power than a LIGHT Micado? Are the files corrupt? Any help would be appreciated. Thank You

Further experimenting: I finally got the 4-6-2 HEAVY Pacific pulling just two heavyweight passenger cars to go 23mph -again DOWNHILL. What happens is that the Steam Pressure goes down to just 130psi and then no matter what you do, adjusting the Throttle and Reverser, the pressure will not increase. Only if you stop the engine will it increase. Mr. Cowen, I think the Engine files are incorrect.

I have that engine and have improved the Simulation bin somewhat.
Download the attached and drop into your 4--6-2H Simulation folder. Assets\Britkits\Steam\RailVehicles\USRA_4-6-2-H\Default\Simulation
As always. Back up the original 4-6-2-H_Simulation.bin.

Thanks for the feedback. I will be updating all my steam locos this year as I have almost finished the diesel ones.

Mucho Thanks, XDriver. Your simulation file certainly helped. While still not as fast as the Mikado, I did get acceptable speeds even uphill. It still seems to run as if it had a governor going downhill as it will not run-away??? Again Thanks. And I too look forward to the updates, Mr. Cowen. Thanks
