E8 update

Unread postby KCJones » Thu May 24, 2012 8:50 am

A graphics error has been noted on the two E8A units, free and pay ware. Updated shape files have been added to the zip files. If you have purchased the Xtra pack your links should still work. !!**sorry**!!

Which files changed? The files are all dated 5/17 or 5/18, is this correct?

They are updating as I write. For some reason the process didn,t work earlier. Give it another 30min as of now 18:30 UK time.

The files should be dated 24/05/12

I am afraid so. The freeware ndb version had to be changed too.

Hi Dick,

I downloaded your E8/9 on Satuday-I think mid-day-Tucson time.

Should I download again?

Also, I mentioned in another post the exhaust stops working above 27 mph, is that peculiar to my install?

Thanks,
Rick

Yes you can download both the packs again I updated them again this morning UK time!!!! I will have to look into the exhaust. Part of the control is in the LUA file and is connected to the engine's tractive effort not speed.

I suppose at a high speeds with a heavy load on the flat the tractive effort will be lower (all that momentum) so not so much smoke. Try running up some mountains **!!bow!!**

Ignoring temperature, smoke = fuel flow = engine load = current * generator field strength ( roughly! ). The engine's load controller deals with increasing the field strength as output voltage falls as the train gets faster, otherwise a real engine's tractive effort output really would look like a RW one.

Extra complications come with field diverts - which let you send more current through the motors - re-arranging how the motors are connected which effectively does the same thing, and then there's the issue that you can't use everything the engine & generator can produce at low speed anyway ( which is why you can run a slug off an otherwise unmodified switcher ). Far more than you wanted to know though, I guess!

Hi Dick,

I can't get the E/8 basic pack to download. When you click the link it says:

Upload Incomplete
This file has not finished uploading, if you download the file the data in it may be corrupt and the file may not work correctly.

After downloading, it unzips, however, nothing ends up in the file.

Please advise,
thanks again..
