Newbie wants to start re-painting BritKits

I have 2 questions I wish someone would answer to help get me started on my re-painting journey. First, I have 3 paint programs I could use. They are: GIMP 2, Paint.net, and Free Stoner 14, (I can purchase the full version of Stoner 14 if it would be most useful of the 3) I am looking for advice on which one would get the job done with the least difficult learning curve. I don't have a preference.

I am a Missouri Pacific fan and have decided to try to learn to re-paint using the Missouri Pacific basic blue paint with white trim because it should be easy to learn and still replicate real world equipment. I also have a world of information available from the Missouri Pacific Historical Society web site as to livery and equipment.

Second Question. Taking the above paint programs into consideration, is there a web site or other source of information available to guide me through this learning process? I really don't want to spend a lot of time on this forum asking a bunch of questions that I could find the answers to myself.

Buy the Way; I already have all the payware Britkits that I will need to model the correct locomotives for this project.

Oh! Forgot to mention the project I am starting. Because the Missouri Pacific Railroad really did use this stretch of track before they merged with the UP, I am going to try to eventually recreate the entire Castle Rock Route into a D&RGW, ATSF and Missouri Pacific route during the mid 50's thru mid 60's.

I have a very interesting track diagram of for Pueblo Colorado during the 1940s that I want to recreate some distance south (eliminate the current portal) of Monument in the Castle Rock Route. But that is just a future dream. I don't know near enough about RS 2012 to even think of doing that now.

Anyhow, any advice concerning the questions above would really be appreciated.

Darrell

*&!welcome!&*

Have a look at http://wn.com/Ethanwrk and http://railworks.wikia.com/wiki/Repaint_Tutorial - maybe these will pint you in the right direction. I too want to do some (never tried before) and hope to make some repainting an Easter project (I want to weather some freight wagons)

There are a couple of threads here in the forums, just do a search, which may help... Everybody says it is easy; but then EVERYTHING is easy if you know how to do it :D

!*cheers*!

Thanks for the replies, guys. Those site suggestions are a start. I am still looking for suggestions on which of the above paint programs are easiest for a newbie to learn.

Thanks
