Rolling stock upgrade allmost ready

Unread postby KCJones » Sun Jan 01, 2012 1:00 pm

I have included a snow effect with the new cars. Only visible in the winter. They can be switched on and off using "Shift T".

The question is, which do you think should be the default on or off?

One vote for default being snow on.

If it's only visible in winter anyway, then I say default on. Looks much more realistic. Looks great!

I too want snow effect on cars in winter scenarios only.

I assume you have only done carbodies/superstructures etc.? No snow and ice on trucks and visible underbody parts?

At the moment the snow effect is a child of each model and can be edited out in the bin file. I can add snow to the trucks but the effects would then need to be a permanent part of the actual model. I did that with the RS3 when I was experimenting. The effects would still only show in the winter and could be turned off.

As things are at the moment if a user wants to remove the snow permanently they can. Also doing things this way I can add snow to models I have already upgraded and supply them as a "Winterisation Pack"!!!!!!! !*salute*! (Slightly less work for me.)

One question, how do you add the snow? I know it's a child object but I can't seem to get it to work on some loco's I'm editing. !**conf**! !*hp*!

If the snow shapes have transparent textures in other seasons than winter, they'll just turn off anyway. If you set the trucks up for winter, Dick, you can just let people use a winter texture without snow if they don't want the snow.
