Would it be possible for someone to make the spark arrestors that the SW series switchers used? The location .bin already exists, as there's a baffle child that fits in the same location that the spark arrestor does. There are other locos that use the same type of arrestor as well.



This is the LINC's (Lewis and Clark RR) primary power, there is a second SW9 numbered 210, but it's currently redlined.

I'd guess it's about 18" or so in diameter at the largest part (larger than the bell harp anyway). The top is a round opening with the tip of a tapered cone in the center. They are a centrifugal system. When not in use, some of these have rain covers that flip over to keep the stacks dry (211s are closed in the picture above). If it doesn't show (it does in the right hand model), these must also have a drain spigot at the bottom to remove accumulated water.

Finally found an annoted picture with dimensions for the 8AB! Exact match for 211. My guess as to the diameter was pretty close.

Okay, holding here until you say you're happy, Mike - as I don't have the foggiest idea what they actually look like :p

Looks perfect. You could round or clip the tip of the cone so it's not so pointed, but it would work if you didn't. The covers I've seen flip over like your model, so I'd say you are right on there as well.

These guys are made of stainless steel, and discolor to a deep amber-brown color. I don't believe they are ever painted.

Those things are definitely more than 18" diameter, or they're getting shrunk put into RW - the unit size is fine in Max but in game they just kinda sit there plugging the top of the exhaust up.

So yeah, anyway... how do you get rid of the front stack? if you want me to cover that whole thing up you're going to end up with something out of the wild west :p anyway, had to scale the thing up 50% from the plans as it is. Okay it might be a bit big now, but it definitely wasn't working out at 18"...

That looks good for size, location, and balance, although as a replacement for the stack, it could have a bit longer lower pipe(~6"). Search the x-sw1200.bin file for Stacks02(01) and you find the location matrix and child call for the stacks. It may be the best to create the arrestors as a third stacks option, that's something for you to decide.

If you want to remove the stacks, remove the stack02 child entry, that just makes the hood clear with no stacks. I forgot the Stack01 child is in the xtra pack. I don't know if you could sub the spark arrestor shape into the Stacks02 geo in place of the pipe shape, if you could you'd have it sorted.
