GP 7/9 questions

Unread postby RAILSOHIO » Sun Apr 16, 2017 5:36 pm

I have had the RSC GP 9 pack since it was new. I hoped RSC would release a GP 7 pack in the same vein, but it never happened. I have all of Great Northerner's freeware 7's and 9's. And I have The Britkit freeware 9. Where I am going with this,Is I need plain- Jane non dynamic, short hood forward, standard horn-placement,no special headlight or accessory engines. Can this combination be attained with the Britkits packs? The freeware version has a second gen control stand,I assume the one in the payware pack is correct. I searched the forum, and could not find much info, before posting this. I have put much time and effort into re skinning the RSC models. But before I invest more time,I am considering Mr. Cowans' models. All opinions welcome.

looking through my BritKits GP9 folder I see a GP9 low hood no dynamic version. the horn placement can be adjusted by what "fittings" you use in the bin file. The manual that comes with the payware kit has so many different combos and explains how to achieve what you want to do. If you have anymore questions Dick is good at returning emails and willing to help.

John,Thanks for the reply. I made a mistake in my initial post. I meant high standard hood, but short hood-forward controls. I understand he does a great job responding. I just though I would check in with some users,to see what they say.

Oh ok well I looked in the payware folder and there is this- GP9-p1-Hi-ndb_RW3 I think this is what you are looking for. I've been working on a correct Pennsylvania GP9 and B-Unit for a long time now. It's fun putting all the little pieces together.

I too have the Britkits payware GP9 pack. I can't remember if the Britkits GP9 control stand is like the Dash-2 or if it has the can throttle like the GP7. I've run real GP9s and they have either the can style throttle or a control stand similar to Reppo's GP20s, depending on their age. I know that Dick has modeled the can throttle, but I'm unsure if the GP9 has it. Maybe just the GP7. It's been awhile since I ran one in TS17.

I would like to point out that there was a mapping error on the GP9-ph1-HI-NDB-RW3 shape where if you paint the walkway frame rail white or yellow, as many railroads did, it will color the radiator surrounds to that same color. It caused me to abandon my ICRR and ITC repaints, but the GP9-ph1-HI-NDB-RW3 shape is the only one in the pack that I'm aware of that has this issue. I've been out of the loop long enough to not know if Dick released an update to correct this.

Thanks for the reply. I decided to stick with the RSC GP 9,and continue my repaints with it. I wrote Mr Cowan directly, but did not receive a response.
