Logging pack upgrades

Unread postby KCJones » Wed Jan 26, 2011 4:29 pm

The Class C Shay was too long, it fell off tight curves!!!! !*roll-laugh*!

So what to do?? !*don-know!* I tried pivoting the 3rd truck further forward. That worked well and the engine was still one unit, but at the expence of the rear numbers and road name and light on the rear tank. **!!bang!!** Hmm !**conf**! so I modelled the third truck as a seperate unit, a simple piece of rolling stock. NOTE NOT as a tender so it appears in the rolling stock section under all the log cars.

I also edited the enging script file (a learning curve still going steeper!!) and the simulator files. A second loco in a consist, for example pushing at the rear, now has better smoke effects. (still not perfect, but I don't know much about lua editing!!!!) The changes were also added to the Class B and Vulcan. The rest of the rolling stock is now linked to a script for passing consist messages.

All three packs have been upgraded. If you have purchased one of my logging packs and have not received and email about the upgrade please contact me !!howdy!!

Thanks for you excellent customer service.
Question: Did you change the brakes? I am having trouble parking the C on an 8% grade, it wants to slide down hill with the brakes on 100%. !*hp*!

well the shays work like they should but there is a new problem that came up ONLY after the update! the first 2 trucks on the 3 truck shay don't move anymore but the 3rd one does? it dosen't affect the preformance of the shay but it deterearates the realism of the model. i hope you can fix this.

I have checked the Class C and it works fine on my computer. Try removing the Class C from the sim and then reloading it. There have been changes in the bogie and engine files so that may be your problem.

Hi Dick,
Has anyone reported SBHH problems with the Class C Shay. I have had about 4 instances using the Shay on Bay of Quinte and the MCSA. All occurred within about 1 minute of selecting and moving off.

I have even loaded the Shay into a barebones route (no scenery and no wagons) and ended up with the same result !*hp*! .

I will reinstall the pack again, just in case something has been corrupted, but just wondered?

No problem with the Class B Shay.

Edit - reinstalled pack, but still no luck - Happens with both the oil and coal fired shay, but for some reason not as quick with the coal fired one - had me lulled into a false sence of security, then after 3 minutes - SBHH :(

Re previous and SBHH, can confirm that the Class B has no problem. I luckily kept the original Class C (the all in one model), and as I am not running any tight curves (or looking at any tight curves at the moment, sad to say) I have gone back to that pro tem.

Anyone else experiencing this, or is it a peculiarity to my setup?

Edit - well I spoke too soon - SBHH with the original Class C Shay as well! !*snd-help*!

Sorry Dick - I thought everbody had had a bout of SBHH's some time or other *!lol!* . I have been getting better recently, and the doctor has said that I shouldn't be too embarrassed by it.....

Back on track - as Harold said, Something Bad etc.

It is quite odd, it is happening in bare bones routes, with one length of track and a couple of twigs instead of trees. Seems ok just sitting there, but within no more than (at most) 3 minutes of moving the whole sim comes grinding to a halt. No problem at all with the Class B (or any of your other engines for that matter). Doesn't make any difference whether with or without other stock.

Tried reinstalling and reverting to the old Class C, but no different.

Very puzzled....

I have run the Class C all round the test track and I am afraid to say (from one point of view anyway) nothing bad happened or I suppose NBHH.
Would you like to re-download the model and start again?? If so send me an email.

Dick.

Hi Dick, thank you for that, will do.

What has puzzled me most is my recollection (I don't think it is faulty) that they ran perfectly well on my set up when I first got them - I particularly remember spending a lot of time ouside the Class C just watching it move.

Will email in a moment.
