Coverd hopper PSD files

Unread postby RAILSOHIO » Tue Aug 28, 2018 3:16 pm

I am in process of doing re-paints of the Golden Age covered hopper. I have been "winging it",so far. The PDF says there are layered files available. They are not with the manuals. Any idea where to find them?

PS-2 4750 cu-ft 3-bay Hopper
That would be the better description. I was a bit lazy on my description. I have noticed there are few re-paints on that one.

Yeah I have old D/Ls and new D/Ls and none of them contain the mentioned psd files. I guess we will have to wait and see if Michael shows up or you can PM him and ask him. He usually responds quickly. Sorry I couldn't help.

I may be wrong but I think that is what he is referring to when he states that a file is available for repainting. He wants anyone who desires to repaint one of his pieces to contact him. I could understand that as it gives him some control on knowing who may be repainting his pieces.

I thought that might be a possibility. Meanwhile here is a shot of my WIP You can almost smell the fresh paint of this version.

Michael Stephan has been so courteous and helpful. I have emailed him several times asking for layered texture files and he has promptly sent every one. You can find his email on the Golden Age of Railroading website.

Thanks,Harry.
At this point I have mapped it all out. I have to deviate from prototype on two points, due to the way the model was mapped. But I am happy with the results. If I do his other rolling stock,I will ask.

Please do send me an email (preferrably not a PM please) when ever you want to repaint a car or something else. You'll find it makes your life a lot easier as there's also mapping guides included in the source files. For some of the more popular models, I have proper repaint kits available (.psd or .psp formats if preferred), if you're working with a paint program that handles layered image files, these should make your life a lot easier (they generally also include overlay layers for shading and subtle weathering so you only need to worry about the color painting and the lettering). If you want to repaint something where I don't have a repaint kit ready, I can always just send you a copy of my original source texture to work with.

The reason for not publishing these online is mainly to conserve bandwidth. The textures are quite large files and back when I still offered them for free download they caused a lot of traffic but only few, like Harry *!!thnx!!* , actually published repaints.

I really don't want to discourage repainting -- quite the opposite in fact!

Cheers!
Michael
