Hey Michael,

How about considering modeling the open tri-level autorack cars of the 60's-70's? I think they would be popular and work well with many of your other models.

There's a definite dearth of open-sided autoracks from any country. Just Trains offers a nice pack for Britain and I've found some from French and Italian providers, but nothing in the way of U.S. equipment. Of course, an operating loading site would also be nice.

Was always quite fond of these ( UK ):

But yeah, agreed on US equipment. Tanks too, the old 8 sided kuju tank is a bit past it :)

I actually discussed it with Michale several months ago actually, if he made this I'd be letting him use my 60's cars on it as the load. Since of course for a 60's autorack you'd see 60's cars on it and not modern cars since they aren't used any longer.

...Cheers...

Hi,

These cars seem to be great demand. !*salute*! Thanks for the pictures, Harry! Car #2, the rebuilt 40' flat, looks particularly interesting to me. I can't make any promises though, at the moment there are far more "things I'd like to model" than I have free time at my disposal.

Cheers
Michael

They actually used these through the 70s.
I too would like some. They'd be great on so many routes and over a relatively long time frame.

These open cars were a favorite target of some of my acquaintances from my younger days, (I had no part of it). I lived a rocks throw (pun) from the Illinois Centrel 120th. and Indiana, West Pullman
When the railroad companies went from the open autoracks to the enclosed, they were able to reduce freight damage claims. The enclosed rail cars prevented the autos from getting damaged from falling or thrown rocks, bullets and other forms of vandalism. They also stopped the theft of autos and parts from autos and kept hobos from living in the automobiles.
I feel bad for the unloaders when the cars got to there destinations with windows all broken.

I can not say I never threw a rock at one of those open auto racks, But I would never throw a rock at one now if we had them in game. Great idea, they would look to sweet with Wayne Campbell's Desoto's loaded on them..
