Possible to make a loft?

Hi Guys,

In my new-found and now neverending quest to find a realistic track & ballast bed to go on top of a fill I was wondering if it is possible to make the following:

A dark charcoal colored base loft. (usually older routes I model ended up this color due to the cinders and old ballast through the years. I don't like the "purple" color in the gravel lofts provided)

Feathered edges. ( The gravel beds with RAZOR SHARP edges look fine if you build your track in a ditch and can raise the ground around, however I am not good enough to hide this type of loft if used on a medium to high fill. A feathered edge would look more prototypical.)

Interestingly enough, the 1 lane dirt road or 2 lane dirt road with its feathered edges looks like it would work, but the color is light tan.

The gravel track bed "spray" ends up too messy due to the large polygons, and would require a lot of vegetation work.

If there are any other suggestions using existing assets, (I've tried 1 lane US paved roads-not dark enough etc.) I would appreciate that information, as I'm sure I'm not thinking of everything.

Would be if we could find someone willing to teach us how.

I would like to be able to build either a lofted road or lofted iron truss bridge that we could actually curve.

Have you looked here?

The tutorial is written for 3DMax but the basic principles should apply to 3DC or Blender. Not sure about SKU though.
