Hey all,

i am thinking this is a form holder, am i correct, it was out next to a passing siding on the single track north of it

Are you sure it would not hold something electrical? It seems to have a punch out on the side for conduit.

That's how the signal wires around here go, straight up through the pipe, I know because there are some sawed off metal posts with cut off wires inside here in Apex where CSX took down old SCL signals years ago, the train order signals. I'm guessing its a detector or relay of sorts, either for a crossing or for signals..

Maybe it holds a laptop. The conductor hits "9" to bring up the track plan, then shift-clicks on the blue dot to throw the switch.

the reason i was saying this may be a form holder is i read an article in MR in the late 70's - 80's with something like that and plans - but i cant find it

anywho - how does this look?

BTW I found out what this is, it is a signal Juction Box, i didnt notice this but the silver lock with black hasp is a CSX Signal Department lock, had a signal maintainer let me know
