.lua Blueprint

Unread postby TheKman » Tue Apr 26, 2022 9:13 am

I've designed my first signal and I'm ready for the blueprints.

In regards to the blueprint for .lua scripting. After I make a name for the file, on the next step I get a message saying "Windows can't open this file pick an app."

Unless I'm doing something wrong, what app would I need to continue with the blueprint?

Thanks

Hi,

.lua are plain text code files (in Lua language), so any old text editor should work. Notepad++, ConText, or even the built-in text editor from Windows. Just make sure to always save the file with its original .lua extension and not .txt which some editors might default to.

A word of warning though: signal scripts are highly complex beasts and you're most likely better off using an existing script to base your work on and then making changes as needed. The original Kuju signal scripts should still be present in uncompiled form (.lua format) in the Kuju\RailSimulatorUS folder tree.

Cheers,
Michael

I thought I had made another post. Either I didn't hit submit or somehow the post went bye-bye.

Anyhow, does anyone have any tutorial links for the design of the signal? I have made my signal, but I made it all one shape. Looking at other assets I have, it looks like most signals have 2-3 shapes. I didn't come across any that were 1 shape. A tutorial on the blueprint would also be helpful. What I found overall on the web (not a whole lot) really wasn't of much help to me.

Thanks
