Accelerating foliage placement

Unread postby SAR704 » Tue Dec 08, 2020 8:16 am

I just want to ask - How does one get a custom piece of foliage to show up as procedural flora? I haven't worked it out yet, and I haven't found any informative tutorials.

With the RW enhancer, is it practical to use procedural flora for portraying dense foliage (IE through drawing over an existing terrain texture?) Or do I have to resort to the tedious task of placing hundreds of asset blocks instead?

This is just a thing of the Terrain.xml (e.g. in RSC\MariasPass\Environment\Terrain\). Look for </FloraIndex> and </FloraDensity>
which call the position in a texture (MariasPass: grassPack.TgPcDx)

Thanks for the info. But, this seems more like a walk across a rickety old wooden bridge in order to get the end result. As in complicated.

Here's what I just read on trainsim.com. It's from an 2009 post. Link https://www.trainsim.com/vbts/showthrea ... lora/page2. Obviously the image can be enlarged by clicking on it.

I'm not sure how it interprets the alpha channels associated with the textures here. I cannot even get a milk bottle to show. I am totally perplexed as to how the pathing works. Apparently it seems ideal to put these textures in the Terrain folder, not the textures subfolder. That's about all I know about these. Has anyone else here created their own procedural flora and got it to show?

I'd be interested to know how. Thanks.

I've whipped up a guide on the TSNZ wiki where I have been slowly depositing information acquired in my own route building journey;
