I've built a model of the LV Coxton Yard Roundhouse. I'm about to texture the model but I have some question about the building before take on this task.

I'm trying to figure out a couple things. First what are the rectangles on the roof what are their function? What are they made of? Also, what are the outside walls of this structure made of? Would that be painted brick or something else?
I'm hoping some old hand railroaders might have some answers for me.

I suspect the rectangles are smoke jacks of some sort. These were basically smoke vents allowing the engines to be fired up and whatnot inside the roundhouse without smothering every living thing inside with coal smoke.

I'd say there's a 99 out of 100 chance that the walls were painted brick. Wooden roundhouses had a very short life expectancy.

Yes I believe you are right. I'm trying to decide what they might look like. They can't be open...that might get a bit wet ubderneath. They can't be glass as that won't let the smoke out. Giving it some more thought.

The top is solid and the sides are open to let the smoke and fumes out.

Oh, I see. Thanks for the picture. I think I understand a little better now. The picture I posted earlier was the roundhouse as it looked in the 1950's. I can assume that by then the roundhouse was updated for the diesel era, and those boxes became lighting.

Any news on this, would love to see how the model is coming along.

I just finished add the track. I'm using the Sherman Hill turntable with the roundhouse...it seems to be a better fit.

Thanks, I'll have a new type of girder bridge coming out in a few days if anybody's interested.

I'm not much of a bridge builder myself, but I know of several route builders that just love a variety of bridge types.

It's not a train bridge, but how about the golden gate bridge, I think that one would look awesome in the sim.

That bridge is too far away from the anthracite area.

Or you can do the Bay Bridge which did have a railroad running on the lower deck.
