Looking for a 3d modelling program.

Just wondering, due to issues with Windows 7 and 3d Crafter, I don't have a modelling program that can export to the Railworks format. Is there another option available for modelling that is not too expensive that doesn't have a massive learning curve?

v10 of Crafter will be a complete rewrite and should be done soon.
And there is blender. Lots of tutorials out there for it.

That will be interesting! And yes, Blender.... Very active, open source; not necessarily geared for RW, but very easy to use after the initial learning curve. 3DS is the best, of you have the 4Gs to plunk down, unless you are a student

I've seen a few mentions around this forum of people referring to usage of this program. Is there anything at all (such as with the compatibility toolkit, or registry edits etc) that will enable this program to load? It worked earlier in the year, but updates to Windows 7 causes it to be closed within 2-4 seconds of load attempts.
Regarding one of the other options, I can't seem to get to get the Blender exporter to appear in Blender.

I'm using 3DCrafter Pro v9.2.2 on Windows 7. What problems are you having?

It fails to load. It's obviously not sending the correct data to Windows, and it subsequently gets closed.
How on earth have you got to work? Have you just installed it normally?

I take this back. What the author said as 'soon' is once again the classic definition of it.

Managed to get 3d Canvas 7.1.1.2 to load on my pc. But where do you download the Trainworks plugin? It doesn't seem to be available at the 3dCrafter website any more.

You need to purchase the Pro version of 3DC to download the plugins.
Why not try blender? It has many benefits over 3DC right now:
- Actively developed
- Baking
- More stable
- Free (open source)
- Massive community
- Tutorials and books!

I already have a licence for 3DC, and it's successfully been activated for version 7 which actually manages to load. Got the custom track I made in TSM into the program, but now I need to figure out what to do with the blueprint, as it's not recognising the xml file for the default rumble sound, despite me checking everything in the link again and again.
