Could one of you brilliant modellers possibly whip one of these bits of timber together for me?

Crossing timber.jpg

Just the generic crossing timber with the bolt heads showing. Tried using a brown fence post but couldn't rotate from vertical to horizontal.

I have just the thing, but I need some really good shots looking down at it (include both tracks). If you can send it to me I can turn it around fairly quick.

Are you thinking an object with both sides of the track in one hit? Good thinking. I'll find some pics and have them to you asap. If you can make the model with a base set of textures I'll replicate them out into say five or so sets of textures with variations in wear etc. Yeah I know, I'm pretty extreme when it comes to detail. Wouldn't have it any other way. I haven't forgotten about the BRS by the way. I'm just going while the going is good on the CCRY. You know how it is.

That would be awesome. Those things have to be common in the US. I'm surprised no one's done them yet. When you model track in RW that doesn't run perpendicular to road and therefore can't use SR crossings, these timber things would be perfect to set the scene. We have them here in New Zealand on almost every crossing.

it could be made as a loft, there is one in the Portland route for rubber crossings, but some concrete and wooden ones i was wanting to do just haven't yet, im not that great on lofts yet

Making it a loft would be the best approach. I have yet to make one and I don't have the time at the moment to learn how. I was going to reuse a existing model I made and retexture it. If I needed to trim off the sides I can do that simple enough.

Here is what I have done for my route:

We have these in Apex, they'll kill your car! Be sure to include a variant with the timbers between the tracks completely. Thanks!

Timber completely between the tracks? I'd hate to hit one under braking in the rain.

Yeah, and the screws holding it down are coming up after 70 or so years, so the 2 crossings in Apex with timbers (a 3rd one was just torn out) are terrible on your car, you have to go 5 mph or less over them unless you want flat tires or stuff ripped off your car's underside.

maybe - the timbers would be more worn than ties and not much creosote
