exporting to TgPcDx questions (newbe questions)

Unread postby Mavadelo » Tue Oct 06, 2015 5:07 pm

So I recently started reskinning, lot of fun and with some youtube tutorials and some help from Smokebox I created my first reskin which imo looks fairly weel so far (not finished yet) viewtopic.php?f=9&t=14828

Now this is a fantasy skin mainly for my own pleasure and for those that just like me love the Minions and it should be obvious tat a minion railroad needs minions. So I have a 3DS max minion model and a Blender minion model. I was able to export the 3DS max model to IGS and using the ConvertToTg tool it gave me an output.TgPcDx

So I start up rsbintool and want to open .... the tool freezes
I tried with DXTBMP .... it won't open it
I open it in rw tools and it gives me a basic file, no file content, tried convert to dds, no go

Of course I went about it in the simplest way possible so I am not really surprised that it didn't work but a search on google didn't really give me any answers on how to do it and the developer docs apparently don't exist anymore, well, I can't find them is maybe a better way to say it.

Does anyone know good tutorial that I can use. Basically what I want in the end is replacing the current driver model for the GTEL with a minion IF that is possible but I want at least a few minions standing around on platforms and such. I don't even care about animation at this point as I am just starting to learn this.

Any pointers, links to tuts, vids etc are highly appreciated

Wait wait wait... you tried exporting the minion model into .tgcpdx? That's a texture file format. You want to export into .geocpdx for the model (geometry), then export the textures into .tgcpdx. Am I getting this right?

Also, the files you want tor replace for the driver reside in here:
Code: Select all
\Assets\DTG\UPTurbinePack01\RailVehicles\Driver\

You will find the geometry file there and the single texture file in the "textures" folder.
As for the minions on platforms, that's subjective to each route.

Hope that helps! !*salute*!

You need to look into how to use scenery blueprints in the Asset Editor. The IGS file is the geometry only, but you also need the animations in .IA files and the textures in .ACE or .DDS format. All of that gets referenced in the blueprint, which you also fill out with other data. Once it's all correct, you export the blueprint. Then, the resulting asset can be referenced from the driver child object section of the engine.

The place to start is the "dev docs":

As I suspected, I was thinking way to somple :)
making a simple model in blender and even 3DS Max.... not so hard.
Using the model in your projects.... big manuals

I can see my minion will not appear as soon as I want it but if I can place 6 letters in a 5 letter space I am sure I can learn how to do this proper. To be honest, this is the reason I started with a fantasy theme for my first steps into the world of railworks modding and moddeling, if I F this up nobody is hurt or insulted about the result (my personal pride excluded) I will start with reading and watching videos and reading some more and probably start from scratch with the 3D modelling so I can do it all step by step. Appreciate the input, I have seen and own work from the both of you and those are of a quality I hope to achieve one day myself. **!!bow!!** **!!bow!!**

zackly my idea :D

I realise I might be pushing it with creating characters as first task, For now I will scratch my minion and start with something that is actually explained in those developer docs, the creation of a wagon. As my Minion Pacific only has the yellow boxcar skinned to go with it I am in need of a passenger wagon / coach. Instead of taking one from RWA I shall create one of my own ... or at least try to do so. I might have more questions for you gents in time and will off course make updates on my progress.

how game/simulation can inspire you to learn new things ... isn't it awesome !*YAAA*!
