C&O Alleghany route has a new home

Unread postby Toripony » Mon Nov 11, 2013 6:19 pm

The C&O Alleghany route has a new home now here at Railworks America. A big thank you to Bob Artim for his idea and generosity for providing this space. Although the COA beta 4.5 that many of us have enjoyed is not currently available for download, I am working on a new improved version. This forum will give us a place to discuss both previous and pending route ideas, likes, dislikes, problems, plans, addons, etc., serving as a hub for information about the route project.

If version 5.0 is as good as 4.5 count me in. 4.5 is the best route I play. When I lived in Michigan I had an HO layout based on the C&O. I had a few C&O brass locomotives. The C&O steam is unuque with the front mounted air pumps, etc.. The route from Hinton to Huntington is as scenic as anything (New River Gorge).
Please hurry and count me in.
Could you fix the switches to the depot at White Sulphur Springs. The K4 Kanawha derails there.
Also, I would love to have a modeler (if you have contacts) to design C&O steam power such as the K2 Mikado, Class F Pacific, the H6 Mallet, and the H8 Allegheny (The largest locomotive that ran East of the Mississippi).
Thank you.

Search the forum. I remember there being a fix for that and it's on the locomotive to make it less sensitive to derailing.

It seems like I released a separate patch for that derail problem, but it was only on my now defunct web site. That track is already fixed even better for version 5, along with several other track tweaks and improvements. Unfortunately, improving that junction eliminated that little "Store" team track that ran along the main under the bridge. I liked that track but since it was wrong to begin with I'm hoping nobody minds that I removed it (actually left it as abandoned). The curve radius in that junction was only 116 so I'm not surprised we had derailment problems. That was some of the first track I laid years ago when I didn't know what the heck I was doing! lol The Alderson siding was almost as bad; it's been reworked, too.

Tori. Tis a fantastic route, and I enjoy running it end to end. Either no containers or piggies. Or have the construction crew raise the bridge, or lower the tracks.
This actually happened in Chicago, where a string of 10 containers lost there roofs.
Let me assure you this is all in jest. !*YAAA*!

Nope, no doublestacks on the Alleghany; they don't fit the tunnels either. Piggybacks should work though; they've always been very common here. If they're not clearing that bridge it might have happened when I switched to the high-ballast ScaleRail and I never noticed. To this day any freight with a tall boxcar or refridge cars must use that main siding through Ronceverte (bridge is the same but the sidetrack is lower). UP must be hating that right now as they are using the Alleghany while the tunnels are being sunlighted and reworked on Sandpatch to allow doublestacks there.

That bridge was built by my adoptive mother's family and became a landmark of the town. They were one of those local families where every male member (8 I think?) was a railroader. It was finally closed even to foot-traffic a few years ago and should be torn down (maybe it is by now??), but the town wants to keep it. It was the safe path from downtown to the river and there was a boardwalk crossing under it, too. Of course, most of us just walked across the tracks anywhere we wanted. CSX tore out the foot crossing and erected a chain-link fence along the station platform; DOT closed the bridge and now to walk across the tracks LEGALLY is a 2 mile walk to the main bridge in the west of town (which very few people do)! Railroads wonder why people continue to trespass on their property....................

I have a download/opening scenario problem.. When I tried to download this route, everything appeared to have worked, but nothing appears in my file. Any thing that is down loaded the same way as the C&O Alleghany has the same results. Any suggestions? Make them simple. I know as much technical stuff as I do about guiding a space ship to Mars. IE: nothing. Lee D. !*don-know!* *!!thnx!!*
