Yup, it's only the Asset Editor and not the sim. That's because I haven't converted the tender yet. You can't run a steam engine without a tender, can you? Well, not very far, anyway!

I've been working in RS for just over a week and so far I'm impressed with what can be done. Love the reflections! As expected, there are a few things that take getting used to. But after a while we'll get the hang of it.

I'll be visiting the actual 700 next weekend to verify some of details. I hoping this model, as well as the Berk, will be available before summer.

Steam's gonna be awesome in RS. The texturing you can do in RS will make the engine look so real. And Rick, your excellent skill at this time, the best combination! Definetel a boost for the RS community! !!*ok*!!

Rick,

You are my hero! **!!bow!!**
Thank you so very much for getting your engines into RS! Both the 700 and especially the Berkshire are my all-time favorites in MSTS, I can hardly wait to see them in RS, which allows for oh so much more eye candy and detail. Both of which your engine is so well fitted with it's really hard to distinguish it from a photo of the real thing.

Thanks,
Michael

If you are cranking things out like that after a week...

Just to clarify, this model wasn't made in one week. It was first started around six years ago using 3D Studio VIZ and was originally released for MSTS. Last December it was almost completely rebuilt in 3DS MAX in anticipation of Train Simulator 2, with a lot more detail, improved textures and closer attention to prototypical dimensions.

This past week, I reorganized and re-exported the textures, renamed the various parts of the model and created the relevant XML blueprints. After the first successful export, I examined the model and made a first-pass list of items that I thought needed fixing. Many of those items have to do with the unique way things are done in Rail Simulator.

What you see here is a first look at a work in progress with much to be done: shadow shapes, LODs, tender, animations, sounds, cab, crew characters--to name a few. Still have quite a ways to go before it's released!

Looking at the amount of fine detail there Rick, makes me happy from a modeler's pov. But we need US routes.....specially narrow gauge, then I can do justice to some of those fantastic locomotives.

Hi Rick!

She's beautiful! I may give this sim a try, haven't touched MSTS in a couple years or more. When I looked at the demo, the sound was pretty dissapointing, can steam sound good here? You must think so, or you wouldn't bother getting this involved.

For what it's worth, my wife and I are back in Port Orford.
