The texturing looks improved, kudos to whoever did it (I think DTM).
Normally I would pass on stuff like this, but just since Southern is more dear and (literally) near to me, I'm more undecided this time.

Hope they label the SD40 as an SD40 not an SD40-2 as that will stop the complainers missing the inspection window on the hood under the radiator. Southern had both SD40s and SD40-2s.

Wouldn't be accurate. SD40s had shorter frames than the Dash 2s. These models wouldn't work for standard SD40s without shortening the frame (It's easier to spot the difference if you're looking at the platform on the long hood).
Also what do most consider actual issues as opposed to people "rivet counting"? Are actual issues the ones that crash the game or have missing animations, cabviews, or other parts? I'm just confused in this part that's the reason I'm asking.

Constructive criticism (said without accompanying insults) always welcome and indeed appreciated, no problem at all with rivet counters either, "serial complainers" (the kind who purchase/refund a product only for the purpose of finding fault) generally best to be ignored.

So just as an example, if I said the color of a locomotive was wrong or the locomotive was too shiny (I only know this is because of the alpha channel), is that considered criticism or rivet counting? I can get the insult part if it's someone just saying something looks like crap without providing a reason (I've been guilty of such). I'm only asking because I get conflicting results from here and I just want to try to understand what is what.
I should probably take this elsewhere to not derail the topic of the thread.

That would be fair and constructive criticism especially when
specifics are also pointed out. One does need to keep in mind that things like "color, shiny" etc., could vary greatly over the life of a locomotive and thus such decisions often require a bit of subjectivity and there is more than one "right" answer. Certain complainers believe their "opinion" is the only correct one.

Having lived near the UP for many years I always laugh when someone says that a UP paint job isn't the right color when the icky mustard just turns all kinds of shades as it ages. Also in the sim there is the little matter of the differences between monitors that can be huge. One of the major challenges of re-painting is trying to get the colors to look right in game. In any event those people who just spend all their time trying to find fault in others work must be pretty miserable individuals not to mention it discourages those who dare to create something. Just where would this great hobby be without these folks who dare to do modeling?

Ignoring that everyone's eyes are slightly different so shades are different to everyone. If that weren't the case please explain color blindness or maybe these critics, sorry moaners are the only people on earth with perfect sight and color recognition (I think that rocking horse eggs are less rare).

Yeah UP colors can come in many different colors. CSX too. Before they shut down my hometown rail line, ive seen UP locos that were bone yellow to a dark orange. CSX being bright all around and sometimes the blue would look purple etc

Let's not forget the infamous pink CN engines.

When I play TSC on my wifes pc [4gbs ram 2gb ram vdu]??? The colors look richer on hers than my pc which is a gaming system. 32gigs ram 8gb vid card blah blah. Go figure.

Also Don't forget this
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2225 ... oco_AddOn/ . There is a Southern Highhood SD45 included in this pack.

The engines look great and I assume realistic too.
Are these new locos or do they use existing locos with a new paint job.
Could these be used in Quick Drive ?

Hi,
Are these new locos or do they use existing locos with a new paint job.
One locomotive in the pack will be an entirely new one and possibly one that has never been modeled before in TSC (definitely not in a Steam DLC). The others will be based on models that were featured in other releases, but of course with all the needed adjustments to make them match the Southern Ry. prototypes.
Could these be used in Quick Drive ?
Yes. Like with most of our previous Retro Packs, a separate QuickDrive scenario and consists will be included with which you can run QD on Saluda in Southern style straight "out of the box".
Cheers,
Michael

Thanks Michael.
Sounds great. I am pretty sure I will get the Retro Pack as soon as it comes out.

Hello Michael,
Is there any idea when these will be out? Just curious, SRR registers in my "Top 10"! Knowing my luck, I will be out on the ship and won't be able to play with them until November!
