In my tests I found that any sound flagged "OUTSIDE" in the proxy blueprint won't play in the cab, regardless of cab occlusion. SO that part is working. Sounds flagged "INSIDE" or "BOTH" will be heard in the cab.
Also occlusion was a purely EAX thing. I'm not sure TS2014 uses EAX anymore, I don't see it mentioned anywhere.

Are there any plans to extend this sound set to the new CSX SD40 that comes with the New York - New Haven route (or can someone provide do-it-yourself instructions?)

Easy enough, I'll get to it as soon as I can, it just depends on whether or not the previous update has been performed too.

Great! I'm having a hard time bringing myself to do the SD40 scenarios with the default sounds!

It's just awesome! Great job, I'll never return to default sound.

For the default sd40 was I did first was to download the sd40 sound pack from RWA. Once you copy over the assets folder, you would then want to copy the audio files from either there Sherman hill or donner pass sd40 to the default. I copied everything from the Sherman hill sd40 audio folder and then pasted all new to the default. I got all files and the cab folder. I hope that makes sense. Anyone feel free to expand

I decided to try and copy the sounds from one of the SD40's with the new sounds to the CSX SD40 from the New York - New Haven route (just copied over the relevant dav files). It worked except that in the external view I have a weird noise constantly, the best description I can come up with is that it's kind of like hissing air, but higher pitched almost like crickets (?) Not the best description but the best I can come up with.

Any thoughts? Or even better, will there be a patch coming to allow the sounds to work with the CSX SD40's?

Copy the .bin files over pointing to a related thing and it should work better.
There would be a patch, but with ST being so time consuming, I haven't heard much from my mates across the pond.

It is the brakes. The CSX SD40 uses a completely different scripting so the soundset will not work with this loco.
The internal hissing can be fixed by moving the brake into emergency and back. The exterior unfortunately cannot be fixed.

To be honest. I'd rather just swap the loco for one of the CSX reskins in the file library which are VASTLY superior and more accurate than the ones DTG made. You can then use this sound pack and you don't have to deal with the stupid alerter (UK AWS sounds in a US loco huh......yeah ok *!rolleyes!* that's accurate).

There is a hidden problem with EMD sound pack installer, which was hard to figured out

installer silently creates "alternative" copies of SD40-2 engine config, in the root engine folder
<RW_root>\Assets\RSC\SD40BnPack02\RailVehicles\Diesel\SD40-2\BN\SD40_2_BN.bin
<RW_root>\Assets\RSC\SD40BnPack02\RailVehicles\Diesel\SD40-2\BN_WhiteFace\SD40_2_BN_WhiteFace.bin

while original engine configs located in
<RW_root>\Assets\RSC\SD40BnPack02\RailVehicles\Diesel\SD40-2\BN\Engine\SD40_2_BN.bin
<RW_root>\RSC\SD40BnPack02\RailVehicles\Diesel\SD40-2\BN_WhiteFace\Engine\SD40_2_BN_WhiteFace.bin

there should be no extra copies of engine specs anywhere inside loco main folder - otherwise Scenario Editor may pick "wrong" copy,
and install it into consist. It is impossible to distinguish them in Editor, as they have exactly the same loco name and appearance.
I did that couple of times, and my scenarios was not playable from workshop because of wrong path to engine config.

I compared what the difference between original SD40_2_BN.bin and extra copy:
new one contains reference to bogey sound , while original has not.
if this is intended upgrate, the installer should allow user a choice.. install or not install bogey sound upgrade. and don't create extra copies

That's why I hate installers, and prefer to copy files manually to Assets. at least I know what exactly was modified, and can revert it back, if something went wrong

Same here, that's why I always install to a fake folder first and see what exactly is changed/included, and put what I want into my TS installation. :)

The copies are in the wrong place, but the copies are there for if you uninstall, it can put the originals back.

with .RWP it's easy - I unzip it with 7zip (rwp is basically plain archive) , and manually copy to assets

it is much faster than painfully slow and unreliable RW Assets installer, which contains bugs and sometimes doesn't overwrite half of the files
