TCS (Train Control Systems) - EMD 16-645E3 DLC

Unread postby bnsfsubdivision » Tue Sep 08, 2015 4:50 pm

Hey there Folks!,

It's been a little quiet lately around Searchlight Simulations and our AC4400CW and well, this is what we have been up to! We partnered up with TCS Train Control Systems to bring their outstanding DCC Decoders to Train Simulator. Some of you may already know them for their WOW Sound Diesel Decoder which has been out for a few months now and we took the opportunity to work out a contract with TCS to use their recordings for Train Simulator. This, is what came out. *!greengrin!*

This whole thing is essentially done, I'm currently just working on the contract with Dovetail Games. Took me about a month of hard work to put this together but based on what came out, I'm sure It was well worth it. This DLC will be the first to feature our NEW Dynamic Prime Mover System and Dynamic Horn System. You might ask what "dynamic" means? In this case it means the use of several individual audio recordings for different distances betweent the object and the recorder in order to achieve the most realistic change in sound and pitch possible. This has, AFAIK, never been done before for this game which is why we are really excited about that. You'll be able to hear the 16-645E3 Prime Mover in a beauty never experienced before and you'll jump up by the sound of the beautiful K5HL. Hop into the cab and feel the power of 3300 HP kickin' in on your call and experience a feeling unlike ever before. For any EMD fan out there, this is going to be a must have one. Stay tuned for updates!

Very interesting....as there is already a 645E3 payware soundest I don't know which one is better. Also, the K5HL isn't prototypical to the SD40-2s but will fit the ES44s well. Maybe you should implement that stuff into Anthony Wood's soundset.

Maybe you should let them do whatever they want to do.

You'd be surprised where you find K5HL's on these days.. This one's is in fact off an SD40-2 plus if I want, I can access TCS's whole library with 30+ horns and bells but I'll leave it with the K5HL because you never heard a horn like this before in the game. Also. Anthony is doing all best he can and we are doing all best we can.

Well we got contracts for a 567 Turbo/non Turbo, 645 non Turbo, 710, 16FDL and 7FDL16 to be signed which obviously could turn into a huge deal for Dovetail Games as they never offered sound DLC's before.

While this is good news, I'm also a little concerned about DTG future intents with offering payware "upgrades" to existing payware DLC. Assuming this is successful, which I hope it is for you, will it send a message to DTG that it is ok to offer substandard payware DLC on the initial release, with the hopes of selling upgrades later? Time will tell, but it is something to watch.

Sure this would be in fact an upgrade however if we consider this as an "payware upgrade", shouldn't we then consider all the marketplace times such as repaints for DLC's as "payware upgrades" as well? Those are all upgrades which you can decide to purchase if you want but they are not required to let's say update a DLC in order to make it work. It's like buying a new set of rims for your car. If the old ones are not broken, then why upgrading? Because you want your car to look even cooler.

I understand your point, but a marketplace repaint is a supplemental product that has it's own functionality in the game. A payware upgrade to "enhance / fix" core functionality which should have been included in the original product is something different. All that aside, I truly do hope this is venture is successful for you, and more than likely I'll pickup this DLC when it's offered as accurate sound is just as important to me as accurate models and physics.

Buzz - Am I paranoid? Maybe... but I'm also a realist. My family though would agree with you.

" should have been included in the original product is something different."

Not to put too fine a point on it but that's where the rubber meets the road. Who's to say what should have been included. That's one of the major purposes of a forum like this is to get feedback from various folks about products as they hit the market about the quality of the offering. Lot's of things are not perfect but that doesn't mean they should not be released keeping in mind always the pursuit of excellence.

I hate to bump an old thread, but, when can the rail simulator community purchase and enjoy this add on? I mean, my credit card is already burning!

We had some back and forth with Dovetail about this and decided to release it as a full DLC (including a brand new engine with it) but don't worry. We are pushing hard on this trying to get it out as quick as possible although I'm yet not allowed to say what the engine will be *!greengrin!*

Stay tuned tho
